Product Designer
Based in Utrecht
Hi! 👋 I'm Ruben, a Product Designer currently working for the Ministry of Defence here in Utrecht.
Practicing any Design role in a world where it's either underappreciated, seen as a hindrance or even unknown, can be rather challenging. I started out as an E-Learning Developer (that was the official title), where I had to conceptualize, design and develop E-Learning modules from start to finish. These modules were aimed mostly at military personnel.
The fact that I was a one-man-army (no pun intended) gave me a lot of freedom to practice different forms of Design in an organization where it's usually not taken into account. Building E-Learning modules for certain military vehicles also gave me the opportunity to film, and experience these vehicles in real life. These film-days were probably the highlight of being an E-Learning Developer.
Meanwhile I was already interested in photography, drawing, building keyboards, sneakers, typography, visual design, you name it. I also started to get more into the UX world and figured that I should find a more suitable position within the Ministry. Since November of 2022, I am now officially a Product Designer responsible for (mostly) mobile apps and web-apps.
